Heard Maria Arredondo live in Tromsø today!

The Norwegian pop-star Maria Arredondo made a sweet apprearence in a mini concert at the Jekta shopping centre today at 6 pm. This was done in connection with the launching of her new cd "For a Moment." Thomas and Rune hung around the centre for over an hour to hear her sweet ballades. The Chrismassy atmosphere created by her singing swayed me into buying a copy of her latest CD, and afterwards we queued up to have her signature on the cover! Read on and see a couple of video-clips from her performance.

A couple of songs from Maria Arredondo's 2005 Christmas CD "Min Jul" (My Christmas) have filled our living room the past few days to get the feel of the Christmas season. When she appeared in the Jekta shopping-centre today to promote her new CD, we decided to stay for the event.

She performed five songs from her new album beautifully accompanied by a pianist. "For a moment" varies between country-pop, gospel-pop and straight forward pop.

Her vocal performance reminded me a bit about Britney Spears when she sings the lower tones. In the high, pathos-filled, crescendo-parts, she strives to resemble Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, but without convincing success. Nevertheless, her performance certainly made her fans stay while a lot of stressed Christmas shoppers were hastening by.

We liked it, even though I to some extent agree with critics that say the lyrics are shaky, and semi-sentimental.

After the mini-concert, she charmingly added a greeting and her signature to the CD-cover. The fact that she comes from Kristiansand in southern Norway, where I studied for three years...and besides, it's pretty close to my childhood town, Arendal, makes me feel a little bit proud...although it's somewhat far-fetched.
